Where
is Jeremy working?
Jeremy
has a new role within the BBC - he is now the Big Screen Manager
for Hull. The screen is situated in Queen Victoria Square in the
city centre, and is used as a digital information point and a focus
for big events. It is one of a growing network of BBC screens across
the UK, usually run in partnership with local councils.
Jeremy looks after the scheduling of content on the screen, as well
as helping local community groups get their material on!

Before
this role, Jeremy was the Head of Programmes/Programmes Editor at
BBC Radio Humberside in charge of the daytime output of the radio
station. He often still stands in when the presenters are away on
holiday!
Prior
to the end of March 2003 when he took over the Head of Programmes,
Jeremy was in charge of the BBC Bus in East Yorkshire and Northern
Lincolnshire. The BBC Bus was launched in April 2002, and is a modified
single decker Dart bus. Instead
of having seats on board, the BBC Bus is equipped with a classroom
and a radio studio.
The bus arrives in a different location each day, and offers people
the chance to learn basic computer skills. There is a satellite
dish on the roof which provides the quality internet link, so that
people can try surfing the internet for the very first time!
On
board the bus, the community broadcast journalists provide regular
bulletins on Radio Humberside about the place they are visiting,
and try to involve as many local characters as possible. For more
information about the BBC bus, visit the webpages on the BBC
Humber website.
The
BBC is now based in a brand new building in the centre of Hull.
This provides a new Open Centre on the ground floor where people
can learn about computers for free (similar to the BBC Bus!) as
well as watch the radio presenters at work in the studios.
